Week 2, Animals around the world

 



1. What are some native animals to New Zealand that are in threat of extinction?

The kiwi, because the Maori hunted them in the old days, and the English bought them in.

2. How do we protect and look after our native animals in NZ?

By keeping them in a safe place, where it is not endangered.

3. Where are you most likely to see New Zealand’s native animals?

In the forest, or in a safe zoo, etc.

4. Many people believe that to save animals from extinction they should be bred in zoos? Do you agree/disagree with this statement and give one reason why.
I think they could do that, but I don't really know how they treat them, but if it helps them to populate more of their kind, i will be happy.

5. When zoo bred animals are released back into the wild there can be serious problems. What might some of these problems be?

It might be that the possums could get the eggs and take them away, or the possum eats the kiwi bird.

6. Zoos are …...a life sentence for animals. What do you think this means?

I think it means that because of the cage the animal has been kept in, and maybe because they are used to breed more, so they might never be able to go back into the wild.

7. Why do you think animals in the wild die before they reach maturity?

It is probably because of all the introduced animals that hunt for our birds and animals.

8. The only way to save our endangered animals is to study and protect their habitat. Why?

Because we don't want to tame them, and get them to be any weaker than they are now, Keeping their wild nature can be the best solution.

9. Should we have zoos or wildlife parks? Why?

I think we could have them if they save the animals, and so kids can see the different types of animals.

10. If you could chose one animal to study what would it be and why?
I would probably research the Tennese Warbler, (cause I researched it a long time ago,) or maybe the grass frog, cause it is very pretty and interesting how it is see through.
